When working with the Ayahuasca medicine the importance of integration is often underestimated by many people. We love the beautiful feelings and profound insights ayahuasca gives us. They make us feel like we are on top of the world. Like our eyes have been opened after a long sleep. Chances are we have worked very hard for them, as exploring our unconscious mind looking for these treasures can be challenging and confrontational. We earned them! But what is the point of healing and insight when we are not able to benefit from our experience in our daily life? What did it mean if we go back home after an ayahuasca retreat and just get sucked back into our old life and everything stays the same? Nothing much really, if you ask me.

Just drinking the medicine is not enough, it won’t change you into a healthy and care free person overnight . It’s not a magical potion that will solve all your problems and make you happy. Ayahuasca is a teacher, and integration is your homework. Ayahuasca does not stop her work at the end of ceremony or retreat. A first step has been made towards a healing process that works on many levels in our being. This process will unfold over time and it can take months or even years. Our insights and emotional breakthroughs need to be nurtured. We need to dive into their meaning and study the many layers they often carry. We need to figure out how we can implement them in our personal relations and choices in order to move towards a healthier and happier life.
